(KMOV.com) – A dust storm Friday caused authorities to close a 10-mile stretch of Illinois Route 108 near Carlinville, Illinois on Friday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) said the dust reduced visibility to just a few feet and caused two accidents. Authorities said both accidents involved law enforcement.

In the first incident, an Illinois State Police District 18 Trooper was en route to assist a female driver who had gone off the roadway and into a field due to the severe dust storm.  Upon entering the dust storm, the trooper reduced his speed due to the lack of visibility and shortly after was rear ended by a Macoupin County Sheriff's Deputy also en route to assist the female driver.

Both officers suffered minor injuries.

Authorities said noone was injured in the second accident which involved a collision between a motorist and an officer from the Illinois' Secretary of State's Office.

Illinois Route 108 was then closed due to the hazardous conditions until the winds subsided.
