(KMOV) -- A 20-year-old southern Illinois man dubbed the “I-55 Bandit” was sentenced to five years in prison for robbing an Arnold bank and at least nine others throughout the country.
Andrew Maberry was sentenced in St. Louis on Friday by United States District Judge Catherine Perry.
Maberry, of O’Fallon, Ill., pleaded guilty in Dec. to felony bank robbery for the series of crimes committed last year.
In addition to robbing the Commerce Bank branch in Arnold on July 2, Maberry admitted to robbing banks in Illinois, Missouri, Maryland, West Virginia and Tennessee. Out of the nine, one was in Cape Girardeau, Mo, one was in Crystal City, Mo. and another was in Edwardsville, Ill.
The FBI dubbed Maberry the “I-55 Bandit” because some of the crimes occurred near Interstate 55.
He turned himself into police in September after bank surveillance camera pictures were released to the media.
