(KMOV.com) -- Officials in the Metro-East are working to protect Christmas decorations that have been targeted by vandals in the past.

A Christmas display in Rock Spring Park in Alton has been described by people as a wreck and now a group called the Grandpa Gang is working to ensure the safety of the display for Christmastime.

Bob Osburn, the leader of the Grandpa Gang, said the vandals continue to wreck havoc every year and he’s not sure why.

Osburn said the money raised from the Christmas display is given back to the Alton community.

“I just have no idea when we give all this money back to the community,” said Osburn, “Why somebody in our community would come in and push them over.”

Osburn said any effort by police to combat the vandals hasn’t seemed to make a difference, but the Grandpa Gang is determined to stop those taking advantage of the display.
