(KMOV) – Monday marks the deadline for Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to make a decision about speed limits on rural interstates.
Quinn must sign or veto legislation passed in May that would increase the speed limit to 70 miles per hour.
If Quinn signs off on it, the new speed limit would go up in January. Eight counties in the Chicago area would be allowed to keep their limits lower, however.
Illinois would be the 35th state to have 70 mile-per-hour speed limits.
