CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. (KMOV) – Authorities believe a smoker is to blame for the early morning fire that destroyed a Crystal City restaurant Wednesday.

Fire crews were called around 3:30 a.m.  to a report of a dumpster fire against the building of the Bandana’s Bar-B-Q Restaurant located at 103 Truman Blvd.

Upon arrival, crews found it to be a smoker sparking the fire. Flames were already spreading to the building's roof as more crews were called in.

Firefighters from the Festus, Herculaneum, and Hillsboro departments assisted Crystal City with the fire. Officials say strong winds made fighting the fire difficult.

Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire. The Crystal City fire chief does not suspect foul play.

The restaurant was reportedly closed when the fire started, no injuries have been reported.
