Firefighters contain second alarm blaze at apartments in North County

(KMOV.com) -- Firefighters in north St. Louis County battled flames Friday afternoon at an apartment complex.

Central County Firefighters were called to a second alarm fire with reports of heavy smoke and fire around 4 p.m.

Firefighters said the fire started on a patio, but the spread into at least five apartment unit and damaged the siding of the building. Firefighters said fire damaged three units and smoke damaged two others.

Officials said no one was hurt in the fire.

Florissant Fire Department responded to the fire as well as eight other districts to battle the flames.

The St. Louis Bomb and Arson Unit was called in to investigate because authorities are calling the fire suspicious.

The apartment complex is located in the 3500 block of Sugarcrest Drive near the intersection of New Halls Ferry Road and I-270.
