(KMOV.com) – Firefighters battled a blaze that engulfed a home in south St. Louis on Friday afternoon, causing the building's roof and rear wall to collapse.

The fire started at a building on Geyer Avenue near Jefferson around 3 p.m.

Fire officials say it doesn’t appear anyone was inside the house when it collapsed, though a search of the house hasn’t yet been completed.

"The fire seemed like it had burned for a while prior to us getting here," said Deputy Chief Brian Walsh. "It was well-involved and deep-seeded...and it didn't give us a lot of time before it got to a collapse situation."

There are reportedly four to five residents that live in the building. No injuries have been reported.

The home is considered a total loss.
