(KMOV.com) – Authorities are warning people about a scam where an email notifies victims about a funeral, but when they open the message malware gets downloaded on their computer.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said people have been receiving emails under the subject line “funeral notification” that offer condolences and invites users to click on a link for more information about an upcoming  “celebration of your friend’s life.” Authorities said when you click on the email, malware is downloaded your computer. According to the FTC, the message looks like it is coming from a real funeral home.

If you are concerned that you were the victim of this scam please contact the FTC at 877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357) or file a complaint by clicking here.
