(KMOV.com) -- Residents in a Metro-East town are concerned their city is misusing millions of dollars on sidewalk construction.
People in Edwardsville are concerned about a construction project worth $2.9 million being funded by TIF money.
Edwardsville officials said they have been working on the North Main Project since 2010. The plan focuses on a one mile stretch of Main Street that has already replaced the street and sidewalk while work continues on installing new lights along the sidewalk.
Now some residents said the city is pulling up the newly paved sidewalk to make room for the new lights.
“They will look like new,” said Edwardsville City Clerk Dennis McCracken.
McCracken also said he didn’t know about the new sidewalk being torn up in order to install the lights.
He said the project will be completed by the end of the year.
