(KMOV) – For the first time, the public can watch dramatic video of a shooting and police chase that concluded with the death of an accused killer.

Before his death, the gunman was accused of killing the former Missouri Department of Corrections in the same crime spree.

Dash cam video shows how Evan Ebel shot Texas Deputy James Boyd in the chest and head before leaving him on the side of the road.

The video runs for several minutes before someone stops to help. Deputy Boyd still has parts of a bullet lodged in his skull and has permanent hearing loss.

"It's got a lasting impact is the fact that I have to wear this hearing aid, which is something I should not have had to wear for 40 years, for the rest of my life,” said Deputy Boyd.

The dash cam shooting happened after Ebel shot Corrections Chief Tom Clements.

The murderous crime spree came to a crashing ending when Ebel plowed his car head-on into a semi truck. He died in a shootout moments later with police.
