Customers of Becky's Carpet and Tile still want answers after abruptly closing

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Almost two weeks after Becky’s Carpet and Tile stores abruptly shut down around the St. Louis area, some customers still have not gotten their products or money back.

Teresa Farrow said she made a $1,000 down payment at a South County Becky’s Carpet and Tile store on June 5.

Like many others, it’s carpet she still hasn’t received.

Farrow said she came home from work one day and had a message on the machine from salesman Bob Sinclair asking to call him back.

“I said, ‘ok, what’s up,’” Farrow recalls. “He said ‘Becky’s is going under.’ I said ‘oh! She cashed my check yesterday. What about my money?’  He said, ‘I don’t have an answer for that.”

Answers from Becky’s have been hard to come. Last week News 4 contacted the queen of carpet, but we did not hear back.

News 4 on Thursday was able to speak with Becky’s attorney, Steve Goldstein. He said Becky’s has hired a liquidator to collect the company’s assets and attempt to settle claims.

“We hope to be in a position to make refunds to customers within days and weeks from now, as soon as resources allow,” Goldstein said.

Goldstein said the liquidator is going through each store’s inventory hoping to fill some outstanding orders.

He recommends customers who used credit cards and are still waiting for their products or money back to try canceling the transaction through their card companies.

Sadly, there is no guarantee any customer will get paid back.
