ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – The St. Louis Cardinals announced that the team will retire Tony La Russa’s number prior to the game against the Atlanta Braves on May 11.

La Russa was the Cardinals manager for 16 seasons before announcing his retirement after leading the team to its 11th World Championship in October.

The number 10 worn by La Russa will become the 12th number retired by the Cardinals and the first since Whitey Herzog in 2010.

La Russa was the winningest manager in Cardinals history and ranks third all-time in managerial wins (2,728).
