(KMOV) – The driver responsible for a police car chase is in critical condition after authorities say he barreled through the Riverview-McLaren intersection in St. Louis Saturday afternoon.

“My heart dropped, my heart dropped,” said Trina Thompson, a witness to the incident. “You know it doesn’t make sense for these kids, young adults, to run lights and hurt themselves.”

According to authorities, the driver of the vehicle, a Buick sedan, hit two other vehicles while speeding through the intersection. One vehicle hit had a mother and her two children inside. Police say they were not seriously injured.

Three people were transported to a local hospital.

McLaren was blocked following the accident as officials figured out the best way to take care of the utility pole.
