(KMOV.com) -- A 14-year-old and a 2-year-old were hospitalized after a tree was knocked over and onto their mobile home trapping the two inside.

Firefighters in Cherokee County, California, said the pair were sleeping when the tree came crashing down. They said this was all caused by severe weather.

Crews had to be extremely careful to free the teenager who was trapped beneath the fallen trunk.

“Like I said, a very delicate situation where we had to keep the tree stable at all times so it didn’t continue to fall on this young lady,” said Firefighter Tim Cavender, “So we were very fortunate to be able to get the necessary personnel in there and get the necessary equipment to pick that tree up so she could be removed.”

The teen is now in serious condition, but the toddle suffered only minor cuts and scrapes, according to authorities.
