(KMOV.com) – A boy who was shot by his mother before she turned the gun on herself inside their Wentzville home remained in critical condition Monday, according to St. Louis University Hospital officials.

Officers were called to a home in the 200 block of Niagra, just north of Wentzville Parkway, around 3:40 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, police found Colin Anderson lying on the driveway with severe head injuries.

Authorities said an officer picked him up and carried him to an ambulance located about a block and a half from the home.

Multiple police departments and a SWAT team secured a perimeter around the area. After about an hour, officers cautiously entered the home.

That’s when Laurie Anderson, 44, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police said she had used a .45-caliber handgun to shoot her son, and then herself.

The juvenile victim was transported to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in critical condition. On Sunday, he was transported to St. Louis University Hospital where he remained in critical condition on Monday.
