(KMOV) – Authorities in Belleville are investigating a rash of burglaries over a week-long period.

Police say about 20 homes and car break-ins took place across a four-day period but officials believe they are making progress in the investigation.

A car parked on the 200 block of South Charles Street was hit then within six hours another car was broken into a block away.

Tom Tangaran says a few weeks ago his girlfriend’s car was burglarized. He said he had little money so his only liability was the car and they keep it unlocked so thieves won’t bust out a window,

Police are also dealing with several home burglaries. On the 100 block of Glenview, victims came home to find their homes ransacked and a handgun was stolen.

Alderman Jim Musgrove helped set up a neighborhood watch group several years ago. He said he is concerned when he hears about a spike in burglaries.

He adds that neighbors should keep a look out for one another.
