2 charged after fatal shooting involving off-duty officer in Forest Park

(KMOV) – Police issue charges following a deadly robbery attempt involving an off-duty police officer in Forest Park Monday night.

Authorities charged Jamaal Robinson, 20, and Joshua Hunter, 20, with second-degree murder, three counts of armed criminal action, and two counts of first-degree attempted robbery. A third suspect was killed at the scene. 

According to police, a St. Charles County deputy, 36,  and a 23-year-old woman were jogging near the Grand Basin at the foot of Art Hill around 11:15 p.m. when a man slowly walked past them.

Police said the officer became suspicious and placed a gun at his side as a precaution. When the pair turned a corner, three black males dressed in dark clothing and hoodies pulled a gun and announced a robbery.

According to court documents, Robinson allegedly told the victims, "don't make me kill you" as he held his hands under his clothes as if he was holding a weapon. 

The officer announced who he was then fired shots at the suspects, striking all three of them. An 18-year-old suspect, identified as Antonio Nash, was hit in the stomach and was pronounced dead the scene.

One of the other suspects was struck in the buttocks and the other was hit in the neck. Those suspects, both 20, were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.

According to police, the officer has 16 years of experience on the force.

Further details into the investigation were not immediately known.
