(KMOV) – A 16-year-old is being tried as an adult after he allegedly robbed a 13-year-old outside of a McDonald’s in University City with a semi-automatic weapon.
Police say Teon Mitchell, 16, stole a cell phone from the 13-year-old after pointing the gun at him. The alleged incident happened in December, but Mitchell has just been certified to be tried as an adult and is only four months away from his 17th birthday.
“Generally, a guy like this is way beyond what they can do for him in juvenile court,” said St. Louis County Prosecutor Robert McCulloch. “The juvenile court is not meant to deal with violent offenders. They are not equipped to deal with murderers, rapists, and robbers.”
“It’s not like this was an accident,” said University City resident Raymond Gardner. “He knew exactly what he was doing. He wanted to rob a child. Rob a person, a child no less. He needs some stiff punishment.”
