CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A man accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl at a Clayton Ritz-Carlton Hotel more than three years ago is now on trial.
Jury selection began Monday for Daniel Hughes, who is accused of entering the wrong hotel room while drunk on March 6, 2011, then getting into bed with a girl and molesting her. A 14-year-old girl and a friend were also in the room.
Police say the girl eventually alerted her parents, who were sleeping in an adjoining room. They chased Hughes from the room and he was later apprehended in the hotel lobby by Clayton police.
Hughes was charged with child molestation and sodomy in the case. According to Clayton police, Hughes said he thought the child was a female acquaintance.
Hughes, who was in town on business when the alleged incident occurred, posted bond in March of 2011 and returned to his home in Pennsylvania.
The family of the victim later filed suit against Hughes, the hotel and Hughes' former employer, Enterprise Leasing.
