(KMOV) – Get ready St. Louis area: the seemingly never-ending winter is bringing more snow to the region Tuesday, according to News 4 Meteorologist Kent Ehrhardt.
A winter storm warning is in effect for the northern and southern parts of the News 4 viewing area until 6 a.m. Wednesday. A winter weather advisory has been issued for the St. Louis Metropolitan area until midnight.
Tuesday morning will start with temperatures in the 20’s, and the high for the day is expected to be around 30 degrees.
A little bit of snow hit the St. Louis area early Tuesday morning and is projected to pick back up in the afternoon into the evening, making for a messy rush hour commute. The heavier stuff will arrive in the afternoon, according to Ehrhardt.
“The evening commute could see some of the heaviest snow of the day,” he said.
Ehrhardt said total daytime accumulation in the St. Louis Metro area will be between 2 and 4 inches.
The metro area is expected to get another 1 to 2 inches Tuesday night as snowfall is expected to continue through as late as 12 a.m.
Ehrhardt said the northern sections of the area could get up to 8 inches, while the southern parts will get heavier snow later on.
“It will begin to pile up to the south, though I don’t know if it will catch up to the northern parts of the viewing area as far as total snow,” he said.
The snow will taper off after midnight, though the backside of the storm will bring some light snow Wednesday morning.
“We may see some minor accumulations in the very early morning hours, but most of this will move out so that by noon we’re pretty much out of the snow,” Ehrhardt said.
Wednesday is expected to see temps in the 20s before brutal cold sets in on Thursday.
