ALTON, Ill. (KMOV) – A write-in candidate has won the seat for Alton mayor.
According to Madison County officials, Brant Walker received 1,853 votes, 74 more than incumbent Tom Hoescht’s 1,770.
The official total will not be certified until April 23. If Walker is declared the winner, he will be the first mayoral write-in victor since the late 1970s.
A challenge is expected.
Walker was on the initial ballot, but was thrown off in January after it was alleged people renting property he owns were late paying for city services.
