(KMOV) – A driver crashed into an electrical pole, knocking out power along a stretch of a busy south St. Louis County road early Tuesday morning.

According to police, a van crashed into the power pole at Lemay Ferry and Dumont around 12 a.m. The driver then fled the scene.

The incident left down wires hanging near the van and knocked out power to a nearby senior housing complex. Authorities say the power could remain out until about 1 p.m.

Lemay Ferry was closed from Reavis Barracks to Karlsruhe, and officials say it may not reopen until Tuesday afternoon.

There was no immediate word on the status of the driver of the van or his condition. The cause of the crash was unclear.
