(KMOV) – A 52-year-old woman was sentenced to more than two years in prison for embezzling more than $300,000 from a Sunset Hills church’s checking account.
Elaine Lewis, who pleaded guilty in December to mail fraud, was sentenced Tuesday to 27 months in prison.
Lewis embezzled about $303,000 from the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection while working as the church’s bookkeeper between 2009 and August, 2013.
Most of the stolen money was deposited into Lewis’ bank account associated with her family’s locksmith business, which is run out of her home in Fenton.
Lewis was also ordered to pay $303,000 in restitution.
