BELLEVILLE (KMOV.com) - A woman claims she was sexually assaulted by a man she met on Facebook.

The woman told St. Clair County Sheriff's Deputies the incident happened on Friday. When the two met. she said he threatened her with a knife and later forced her to go to Burger King with him.

Police say it is best to use caution when meeting someone in person with whom you have only had contact online.

"If you're going to meet someone, you do it in a well-lit place with a lot of people there and really double check the information that you're getting," said Captain Steve Johnson of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators are still looking for the man. Police say the victim has a history of prostitution. They are currently reviewing the surveillance footage from the Burger King to identify the woman's attacker.
