(KMOV.com) - Police are searching for a man who attacked a south St. Louis woman in her own garage, running off with her purse.

The alleged attack happened on Saturday night around 9:45 p.m. in the 5500 block of Lisette Ave. in the Princeton Heights neighborhood.

According to neighbors and the police report, the 51-year old female victim parked her car in her garage. Police said she stepped out of her car and a man walked into the garage, pulling out a firearm. During a struggle for the woman’s purse, the woman fell to the ground and the suspect’s gun fired; the woman was not hit. However, the suspect allegedly hit the woman with his fist or gun to get control of the purse. The suspect then ran north on January Ave.

“Certainly there is concern,’ said Michael Lore, who lives in the neighborhood. “Nobody likes to consider that it's possible this could happen in their own neighborhood,”

Police are investigating the alleged attack and ask anyone with information to contact them.
