EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- An Alton woman is jailed on $500,000 bond after being accused in a man’s heroin death last week.

Prosecutors in Madison County charged 27-year-old Mary Ellen Johnson with drug-induced homicide and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of an elementary school.

Authorities say Johnson supplied the heroin used by 34-year-old Michael Johnson, who fatally overdosed last Thursday at Mary Johnson’s home.

The Johnsons are not related.

Marry Johnson does not have a listed home telephone number, and online court records don’t show whether she has an attorney.

The homicide charge is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
