(KMOV.com) -- Shirley Phelps, spokesperson from the Westboro Baptist Church, said members of the church plan on protesting at the funeral of a fallen O'Fallon, Illinois airman.
According to Phelps' Twitter page, members of the Westboro Baptist Church will be in O'Fallon, Illinois to protest Zachary Cuddeback's funeral on Saturday. Cuddeback and a fellow airman were killed in a terrorist attack in Germany.
O'Fallon is draped in red, white and blue in anticipation of the return of the fallen airman Friday evening. Volunteers helped set up more than 1,000 American flags all over town.
Some residents are angered by the possibility that demonstrators may show up to protest, but O'Fallon Mayor Gary Graham said, "We are concerned if there'd be any disruptions. That wouldn't go well in our town. We will abide by the law but this is a very patriotic area as all of St. Louis is so we have contingencies, we'll protect people's right of freedom of speech but we're not going to have the family embarrassed or hurt."
At least 40 people in O'Fallon have volunteered to carry flags and patriotic signs to block out any offensive signs or activity by demonstrators from outside the area.
