CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) -- A confirmed human case of West Nile Virus has been reported in St. Louis County, the first of the year in the region.
Health officials said Tuesday that the 51-year-old man has recovered. St. Louis County had one case of the mosquito-borne illness in 2009.
It wasn't immediately clear if the case was the first of the year in Missouri. A spokesman for the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
West Nile first showed up in Missouri in 2002. Since then, about 450 have contracted the illness and 24 have died.
