(KMOV) – A Webster Groves homeowner went toe-to-toe with a burglar using a kitchen knife until officers arrived.

Police say the homeowner came home to find Tommy Smith, 17, inside his home on Harper Avenue. The victim’s television was damaged and heard footsteps on the second floor of the home.

The victim went upstairs to find Smith and second suspect who fled through a second floor window.

Police say the homeowner held Smith at bay with a kitchen knife until the police arrived.

Tommy Smith was charged with one count of first-degree burglary.
