(KMOV) – A 29-year-old Warrenton woman was sentenced to 120 days "shock time" after pleading guilty to excessively spanking her 3-year-old son and knocking him to the ground.

Heather Baugh was handed the sentence in Warren County court on Monday after pleading guilty to felony child abuse in a deal with prosecutors.

According to court documents, Baugh’s child in November, 2012 was taken to the hospital, where he was found with severe bruises on his spine, shoulders, face, ears, groin, chest and top of the head.

It was later determined that six calls between 2012 and 2013 had been made to a Missouri child abuse center regarding her son’s injuries.

Police talked to Baugh, who said she had been the only person caring for her son in the two weeks the injuries occurred. She told officers she spanked her son sometimes in excess. She said abrasions to the top of his head might have been caused when she hit him with a sippy cup.

Baugh also said she would physically run into the boy while he walked in the hallway, causing him to sometimes fall into door jams.

Baugh was arrested and taken into custody on a $10,000 bail.
