WARRENTON, Mo. (KMOV) – There have been approximately 70 car break-ins in the past six months in Warrenton and police think it may be the work of heroin addicts.
Thieves took a .45-caliber handgun during a rash of car thefts in a Warren County neighborhood early Tuesday morning. The local police chief believes it will be traded for heroin.
“it was there to protect my family. Now it might be used to hurt somebody else’s and that is a shame,” Josh Nave, a victim, said.
Nave’s truck was one of eight vehicles broken into in the Meadows Subdivision on Route AA. Another victim had medications and his wallet stolen which included credit cards, driver’s license and social security card.
Police say heroin has made resurgence in the area and they see that the car thefts are an easy way for people to get their fix.
