(KMOV) – Thousands of people may soon need to find a new pharmacy if Walgreens and Express Scripts are unable to work out a deal to keep the two companies partners.

Congress for Racial Equality, a civil rights group, is so concerned that prices may rise for customers that  it has sent a letter to Congress which read:

“Many within the business community and business media estimate vulnerable populations could face up to a 20% increase in prices for vital medication. In a weak economy that has hit the minority community particularly hard, that increase will harm the health of countless people and could essentially be a death sentence for many.”

Express Scripts officials say that customers could save money if they switch to CVS or pharmacies at local grocery stores or at stores such as Target or Wal-Mart.

CVS and Wal-Mart have already begun to start aggressive campaigns to lure customers Walgreens customers away.
