(KMOV)—Authorities say a scream from a local homeowner trying to fend off criminals during a home invasion may have saved her life.

Police in Woodson Terrace said a man knocked on the front door of a home on Tipton Drive then left. A few moments later, he returned and tried to get in through the back door.

“There were pry marks on the back door, where he had tried. We believe they had unscrewed a light bulb. A security bulb,” said Detective Lt. Hunter of the Woodson Terrace Police Department.

Two men were seen running away from the scene after the homeowner screamed.

Authorites responded to the scene and arrested the two men. One of them, identified as Leontae Simmons, was charged with attempted burglary.

Police say the woman was not able to identify the second suspect in this case.
