St. Louis, Mo. (KMOV) –Acting Secretary of Veterans Affairs Sloan Gibson will speak to Veterans of Foreign Wars and veterans at the John Cochran VA Hospital on Tuesday.
Gibson plans to meet with leadership, employees and key stakeholders to discuss efforts to improve veterans’ access to care.
Gibson’s visit comes one day after Vice President Joe Biden told St. Louis Veterans the Obama administration will not rest until major problems at the Veterans Affairs Department are fixed.
St. Louis’ VA facility has been under scrutiny after the former chief of Psychiatry at the hospital said long wait times for veterans were caused by doctors not seeing enough patients. The VA is investigating the claim.
Gibson took over in May amid an uproar over treatment delays and other problems at VA facilities nationwide, including reports that dozens died waiting for treatment.
Gibson’s speech at the National VFW Convention is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the America’s Center.
