HILLSBORO, Ill. -- Fire crews in Hillsboro, Illinois are working to put out a fire inside a coal mine.
Hillsboro Mayor John Downs tells News 4 the fire started Thursday inside the Deer Run Mine.
Federal authorities were on the scene Friday attempting to put the fire out.
The mine is shutdown and there is no word when the fire will be contained. Approximately 180 workers are employed at the mine. None of them were injured in the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Hillsboro is about 60 miles northeast of St. Louis in Montgomery County.
