(KMOV) – Elderly residents at a University City apartment were forced to evacuate their homes Tuesday afternoon following heating issues in the building.

Senior tenants of the Parkview Place at Westgate boarded a bus for the University City Community center after a leak was discovered in the heating system Monday night.

Management decided it would be best to move the residents while crews worked to repair the system.

“This is very stressful for a lot of people, especially seniors who don't have anywhere else to go, and not really particularly happy away from home to go too long, it's stressful for them,” said Cynthia Ellison.

Ellison believed management handled the situation the best they could with weather, ice and cold as factors in the situation.

According to the management company, residents were given the green light to return to their homes late Tuesday night.
