2 men charged after stray bullet struck girl in St. Louis park

(KMOV) – Two St. Louis County men accused of shooting a twelve-year-old girl were charged on Wednesday by the Circuit Attorney’s Office.

Antonio Witherspoon, 20, and Larry Thomas, 19, were charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Both suspects were arrested at an apartment complex on the 1000 block of Suntree Drive in St. Louis County Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the suspects were arguing at Loretta Hall Park near the intersection of 15th and Cole around 7:50 p.m. Sunday when several shots were suddenly exchanged between the two.

Police say one of the stray bullets struck the twelve-year-old girl in her hand as she played in the park.  The victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for her injuries.

According to authorities, both Witherspoon and Thomas had cut off their dreadlocks prior to being taken into custody by police.

Bond for Witherspoon was set at $100,000 cash-only, and bond for Thomas was set at $80,000 cash-only.
