HILLSBORO, Ill.—A grand jury in Illinois has indicted a Georgia truck driver in the death of an Illinois state trooper.

Illinois State Trooper Kyle Deatherage died Nov. 26 when a tractor-trailer struck him on Interstate 55 near Litchfield. Illinois State Police said Tuesday that a Montgomery County grand jury indicted 52-year-old Johnny Felton of Hinesville, Ga.

He faces charges of felony reckless homicide and operating a commercial motor vehicle without the proper license.

Illinois State Police say Felton was taken into custody Tuesday in Georgia. They say he waived extradition to Illinois where he will be arraigned. Felton previously has said he had no comment on the case.

In December, federal regulators found that Felton wasn’t medically fit to drive commercially.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
