(KMOV) – A train derailed along Interstate 44 near the St. Louis county-city border on Wednesday.

Officials say 18 empty cars derailed on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad near the interstate by the Shrewsbury exit around 2 a.m.

Part of the derailment was on an elevated track over Wellington Avenue, so the street was closed while crews were putting the train cars back on the track. Wabash, Ellendale and McCausland were also closed between Arsenal and Lansdowne.

“Expect delays during pm rush, use alternate routes,” St. Louis Streets Director Todd Waeltermann posted on his Twitter account.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the incident was unknown.
