(KMOV) --- Residents of two Illinois counties will face higher property tax bills after a complex state formula for adjusting property values known as township multiplier.

It shows that residents in St. Clair and Madison County could soon be paying more.

By law, every time your assessment changes, you should get a white postcard in the mail. If you don't like your assessment, you can appeal it by going to the county's website.

Put in your address and you can find out what the assessment for your property would be.

Residents have 30 days to appeal after receiving your assessment in late June to early August.
