WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KMOV) – A mother who lost her son to a heroin overdose shared her story tonight at a town hall forum in hopes to bring awareness to the problem.

Marilyn Smashey wants tougher Missouri laws that would increase the charges against anyone linked to a heroin overdose.

“And I am not saying throw the book at them and lock away the key,” Smashey said.  “I am not saying that, but I do believe they should have some accountability and responsibility in Taylor’s death.”

The town hall forum was held at Wentzville Holt High School and included the St. Charles Drug Police Task Force.

Parents in the Fox School District will raise awareness of heroin by holding signs warning of its dangers on Wednesday morning.
