ST. LOUIS, MO. (KMOV) –A newspaper delivery driver found two young children wandering alone in a Maryland Heights neighborhood Wednesday morning.

Authorities said a boy, 3, and a girl,1, were found by a paper delivery driver shortly after 5 a.m. in the 12000 block of Fee Fee Road at Ross Avenue.

Both children had coats on, but the girl did not have on shoes when the delivery driver found them.

According to police, one of the children’s parents dropped the kids off at his brother’s house and went to work.

Police believe once the kids got in the house, three men inside the home were sleeping, so the kids went back outside.

The three men inside the house, including the victims' uncle, were babysitting, police said. Five other children under 15 years old were also found in the house.

The children were taken to an area hospital as a precaution. They were expected to be OK.

Police initially had trouble determining what the relationship was between the adults and children because they all only spoke Spanish.

Police said there was also an order to vacate the property because there was a gas leak inside the home.

Additional details were not immediately available.
