(KMOV) – A 19-month-old toddler is safe after he fell into a sewer in the Lafayette Park neighborhood of south St. Louis on Tuesday.
Firefighters say the boy was walking with his father on 18th and Kennett streets when the child slipped on leaves and fell seven feet into a sewer.
Firefighter Dennis Tabb, 29, rescued the boy. Tabb is a 3-year-veteran of the department, and while this was not a typical rescue call, he says there was no hesitation to get down there using a ladder through the open manhole.
The child was trapped in the sewer for no more than 10 minutes, firefighters say.
He was taken to SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center as a precaution. He had no injuries.
