OVERLAND, Mo. (KMOV) -- Firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire Friday afternoon at a galvanizing plant in Overland.

A hazardous materials team was called to the scene around 5 p.m., about an hour after the fire broke out at North American Galvanizing Co., 1461 Kin Ark Drive, near Page Industrial Court.

Several homes and businesses in the area were evacuated because of concerns about toxins in the smoke.

The fire was brought under control by 6 p.m., but there was extensive damage to the building.

There were no reports of injuries.
