(KMOV) -- Gun range owners in the Metro-East say they're struggling to keep up with demand as thousands of Illinois residents apply for concealed-carry permits.

Illinois State Police say 46,000 applications have been submitted and they are expecting 300,000 to be filed this year.

All permit applicants have to attend at least 16 hours of training before they apply for a permit.

Industry officials say there's a need for more ranges to accommodate the increased interest.
