ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Members of a south St. Louis church must feel like their church has a target on it after getting hit by thieves a dozen times in the last two years.
Over the past two years, thieves have stolen copper, cash and other items from St. John’s Lutheran Church on South Morganford.
The thieves returned this week for the fourth break-in attempt in two weeks. But surveillance cameras captured the thief on tape before he broke in and stole items intended for families in need.
“We were getting a lot of presents for Humani-tree and our food bank, and they came in the very next night and destroyed a lot of presents, unwrapped everything and stole a lot of the presents for themselves,” said Rev. Michael Tanney.
The thieves broke windows and stole a safe containing $100 in cash, and $1,000 in gift cards.
