ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – An 18-year-old man has been charged after he was shot by a police officer in north St. Louis.
Julius Sanford, of Nashville, TN., was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest.
Police said officers on Wednesday were patrolling when they spotted three suspicious looking men in the 4900 block of Terry Avenue around 12:40 p.m.
Authorities said when they approached the men to ask a few questions, two of them cooperated, but a Sanford pushed an officer and ran.
Police said during a brief foot-chase, Sanford reached for a gun and officers fired at least two shots.
Police said they found Sanford wounded and hiding under a porch, where he surrendered.
Sanford was taken to the hospital with injuries to the shoulder and hip. He remains in stable condition, according to officials.
Authorities said they later found a semi-automatic handgun belonging to Sanford.
Sanford’s bond was set at $30,000.
