(KMOV.com) – Charges have been filed against 17-year-old man accused in a hit-and-run that killed a 2-year-old child in St. Louis County on Sunday.
Charles Guice was charged Tuesday with felony leaving the scene of an accident.
Authorities said Guice was driving a white 2013 Dodge Durango in the 1500 block of Redman Ave. just after 8 p.m. Sunday when he struck and killed Darion Griffin.
Police said Griffin was crossing the street to play with Evans, his sister, when he was hit by the SUV. Evans was hit when she tried to pull the boy out of the path of the vehicle.
Both victims were rushed to Christian Hospital Northeast where Griffin was pronounced dead.
Police said they found the Durango abandoned in the 4400 block of Carter Avenue in St. Louis city Monday afternoon.
St. Louis Police said Guice turned himself into the Moline Acres Police Department later in the afternoon. He said the wreck was accidental and he fled because he was frightened.
His bond was set at $50,000.
