(KMOV) – Maryland Heights authorities busted a prostitution ring operating out of a quiet neighborhood last week.
The suspected prostitutes, Marium Garner, 32, and Arlinda Hughes, 22, and the acting “pimp” Christopher Whitter, 40, were all charged after a sting operation revealed their illegal business.
This is the second prostitution ring that Maryland Heights Police have busted this year although the suspects usually meet their “johns” at hotels.
Residents on Glen Park Drive are shocked to hear that police believe the man and two women were running a prostitution ring out of the neighborhood.
Investigators say the trio would troll for customers with online ads on the website, backpage.com which is where the investigation began.
“If they get involved in something where they think its illegal activity, they go undercover. They (officers) will perform a sting on it and that’s how this happened,” Captain Mike Kloss said.
Court documents indicated the suspects have connection to the business on Watson Road in South County but the doors were locked when News 4’s Russell Kinsaul showed up.
Police say Whitter acted as the “pimp” but didn’t use the typical threats of violence.
“In this particular case, there’s no indication that anybody was forced into anything. By all indications, it’s been voluntary on all parts,” Captain Kloss said. Bond was set at $7,500 for Whitter and Hughes and $10,000 for Garner.
Hughes is still on the run at this time but police believe their closing in on her whereabouts.
