(KMOV) – One man faces charges and a woman is in custody following an officer-involved shooting in north St. Louis County Tuesday evening.

Raymond Chappell, 27, was charged Wednesday with second-degree assault on a police officer and armed criminal action.

According to St. Louis County police, an officer spotted a driver not wearing a seat belt failing to use their turn signal at the intersection of Chambers and Jeffery Drive around 4 p.m.

The officer attempted to perform a traffic stop when the vehicle turned into a driveway and Chappell got out holding a 9mm pistol.

As officers stopped, Chappell started to run. At one point, he stopped, faced the officers and pointed the gun in their direction.

One officer fired a shot at the Chappell, but missed.

Police said Chappell dropped his gun and ran until he was found a short time later hiding in a truck approximately two blocks away.

The female driver of the vehicle was taken into custody without incident at the scene.

No injuries were reported.

The loaded gun was later determined to be stolen after being recovered by authorities.

Police said Chappell is believed to have outstanding warrants including assaulting a police officer, auto theft and drug charges.
